As gym owners, we’re thrilled that strength training is finally getting the mainstream recognition it deserves! We’ve known for years that lifting weights is one of the most powerful tools for achieving optimal health and body composition. |
But strength training isn’t the only lever you can pull—there’s another simple yet highly effective strategy that almost everyone can incorporate: walking more. |
The Power of Daily Steps |
One of the easiest ways to support fat loss, improve cardiovascular health, and boost overall fitness is to increase your daily step count. Walking is accessible, requires no special equipment, and can be done anywhere. |
We encourage our clients to aim for 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day, but if that number feels overwhelming, don’t worry—you don’t have to hit it overnight! Instead, adopt a mindset of small, consistent improvements. |
Step One: Find Your Baseline |
Before setting a step goal, first determine how many steps you naturally take in a day. If you don’t have a fitness tracker, your iPhone or Android can track steps for you—just check the built-in Health or Google Fit app. Note: If you are using either of those phone apps linked to track your steps, there can be up to a 15 min delay as to when steps you’ve just taken show up on the app, so just be aware of that! |
Step Two: Add 3,000 More Steps |
Once you know your baseline, aim to add 3,000 extra steps per day. That might sound like a lot, but it’s more manageable than you think! Walking briskly, the average person can complete 1,000 steps in just 10 minutes. That means your 3,000-step goal can be reached with just 30 minutes of extra movement each day. |
No Time? No Problem! |
We get it—finding an extra 30 minutes in your day can feel impossible. Instead of giving up before you start, begin with just one intentional 10-minute walk per day. |
Then, check back next week! We’ll troubleshoot common barriers and share creative ways to sneak in the remaining 2,000 steps without even trying. |
